By Daniel Lopez · Mechatronics Engineer & LOXONE Platinum Partner · Serving Houston since 2012

Your smart home is only as good as the network behind it. Grizzly Tec designs and installs enterprise-grade networking for Houston homeowners who want their technology to actually work—from the Heights to River Oaks and everywhere in between. As a LOXONE Partner since 2015, we know that a reliable network isn’t a luxury; it’s the foundation of every automation system we build.

Why Houston Homeowners Choose This

Houston’s inner Loop neighborhoods—Memorial, River Oaks, Heights, Midtown—come with old buildings and new ones side by side. Many of those historic homes and estates were never wired for today’s connected world. Even new construction often cuts corners on network infrastructure. You end up with dead zones, dropped connections, and devices that don’t respond when you need them.

We’ve completed over 1,000 projects across the Houston metro, and we’ve seen every networking problem: the Memorial home with WiFi that dies on the third floor, the River Oaks estate where the guest house can’t connect, the Heights renovation where the owners have 80+ smart devices fighting for bandwidth.

The difference between a frustrating smart home and one that works reliably comes down to planning. You need conduit runs during framing, a proper cabinet with a managed switch, and access points placed where people actually live—not just wedged in a closet. That’s what we do.

What’s Included with Networking

A Grizzly Tec networking package covers the entire backbone of your home:

Structured Wiring — We run Cat6a (future-proof) or fiber optic backbone during new construction or renovation. Unlike WiFi mesh systems, wired runs give you rock-solid throughput to every zone. We design the conduit layout so future upgrades don’t require wall demolition.

Network Cabinet — A properly ventilated cabinet houses your managed switch, patch panels, and power distribution. We’re not stuffing equipment in a closet. Good airflow keeps hardware from throttling in Houston’s heat and humidity.

Managed Switch — Commercial-grade PoE (Power over Ethernet) switch that delivers power and data to IP cameras, access points, and other devices. You get visibility into what’s connected, bandwidth management, and redundancy.

Commercial WiFi Access Points — Multiple coverage points tuned for your layout, not a single unit trying to reach everywhere. We size capacity based on your connected devices, not hope. River Oaks estates and large Memorial homes often need 3–4 access points to eliminate dead zones.

Network Rack & Cable Management — Everything labeled, organized, and documented. You get the admin password and full control—no monthly fees, no vendor lock-in. That’s “Smart Homes You Actually Own.”

Project Examples in Houston

Memorial Home Addition — A 5,000 sq ft estate was adding a second floor and guest house. The owner had 60+ smart devices across the main home and wanted the expansion fully networked from day one. We ran Cat6a during framing, installed a managed switch in the main cabinet, and placed three WiFi access points across the property. Every zone now has full coverage and can handle video streaming, security cameras, and automation without degradation.

Heights Historic Renovation — A restored bungalow needed networking without visible conduit. We ran infrastructure through existing wall cavities and under floors where the original framing allowed it. Placed two access points (one upstairs, one down) on the second floor for optimal coverage in a tight vertical space.

Midtown High-Rise Condo — Limited ceiling access meant we designed a fiber backbone with smaller physical footprint. Installed a cabinet in a corner closet with managed switching, then used existing building infrastructure where possible. The owner went from three separate WiFi networks to one unified system covering 2,400 sq ft.

Cost of Networking in Houston

Networking packages start around $3,000 for a typical 2,500 sq ft home with two WiFi access points, managed switch, and basic structured wiring.

Larger estates (3,000+ sq ft) or homes with significant coverage challenges typically run $5,000 to $8,000 for multiple access points, extended conduit runs, and a robust cabinet setup.

New construction costs less because you’re running conduit during framing—no drywall cutting, no patching. Existing homes require more labor, so budget accordingly.

We include a site survey at no charge. We’ll walk your home, identify dead zones, document the route for Cat6a or fiber, and give you a fixed price before we start. No surprises.
