By Daniel Lopez · Mechatronics Engineer & LOXONE Platinum Partner · Serving Memorial since 2012
In Memorial’s custom estates along Buffalo Bayou, a smart home is only as reliable as its network. Grizzly Tec designs and installs enterprise-grade networking—Cat6a structured wiring, fiber backbones, managed switches, and commercial-grade WiFi—as a LOXONE Partner since 2015. Your network is the foundation that lets your whole-home automation, security cameras, audio systems, and connected devices work together without dropouts or dead zones.
Why Memorial Homeowners Choose This
Memorial attracts architects and custom builders who understand that a $2 million home deserves infrastructure to match. Your wooded lots along the tributaries and tree canopy create real coverage challenges—WiFi doesn’t penetrate live oak and pine the way it travels through drywall. Off-the-shelf mesh systems from big-box stores will leave you with dead zones in the pool house, guest wings, and outdoor living areas.
Enterprise networking solves this by design. You’re not patching holes; you’re building a system that scales with your home’s actual size and complexity. A properly engineered network handles 50+ connected devices (security cameras, thermostats, audio endpoints, lighting controls, pool systems, gate openers) without the slowdowns and reconnection issues that plague consumer WiFi.
Grizzly Tec has completed over 1,000 projects across the Houston metro, and we know exactly how to run Cat6a through new construction framing—whether you’re building in Memorial Park, Bunker Hill, or Piney Point. We also retrofit existing homes by running cables through attics and wall cavities to place access points where they actually do the job. And because we’re a LOXONE Partner since 2015, we design networks that integrate seamlessly with your whole-home automation system, giving you one admin interface instead of five different apps.
What’s Included with Networking
An enterprise networking package includes structured wiring (Cat6a cabling or fiber backbone for future-proofing), a managed network switch in a properly ventilated rack, multiple commercial-grade WiFi access points strategically placed throughout your home, and configuration that handles your specific devices and coverage needs.
We start with a site survey. We walk your home and outdoor spaces, identify signal dead zones, measure distances, and note obstacles (trees, water features, construction materials). Then we design a cable run plan—usually during new construction when walls are open, but retrofits are possible too. We terminate Cat6a into a central network rack, install a managed switch that lets you monitor and control each connection, and position access points (typically Ubiquiti or similar commercial equipment) to blanket your property.
You get full admin credentials and password. There are zero monthly fees. You own your network—not a subscription service, not a cloud dependency, not a monthly bill. You can log in, see which devices are connected, prioritize your security system over guest WiFi, and adjust settings without calling us or paying a support contract.
For homes with existing smart home automation or planning to add it, we integrate your network with your LOXONE system, so one command center manages lighting, climate, security, and audio alongside your network health.
Project Examples in Memorial
A 5,000-sq-ft custom home in Bunker Hill had three dead zones: the guest house, the pool equipment area, and upstairs bedrooms. During renovation, we ran Cat6a from the main panel in the garage to each zone, installed three access points, and swapped the basic router for a managed switch. The homeowner gained reliable coverage everywhere and the ability to see which devices were consuming bandwidth—essential when kids are streaming video and security cameras are recording.
Another project in Piney Point involved a new build with high-end automation. The architect wanted cameras, audio, and smart lighting throughout. We ran a fiber backbone as the primary trunk (futureproofing for 10+ years) and Cat6a drops to each room. The builder integrated our networking plan into the framing phase, so there were no wall cuts or visible conduit. The homeowner now has a network that supports 80+ connected devices with room to grow.
A Memorial Park estate retrofit required running Cat6a through the attic and existing wall cavities to avoid visible cabling. We positioned access points to handle both the main house and a detached guest suite 150 feet away across a heavily wooded lot. The owner trades some upfront installation work for permanent, reliable coverage and zero monthly fees—a trade that makes sense in a home they’ll own for 20 years.
Cost of Networking in Memorial
Enterprise networking packages start around $3,000 for a typical home: cabling runs, managed switch, and two access points covering 2,000–3,000 sq ft with standard architectural complexity. Larger homes (4,000+ sq ft), outdoor coverage, or fiber backbones typically run $5,000–$8,000. Retrofits cost slightly more due to the labor to run cables through finished spaces.
We size the quote based on your home’s square footage, coverage goals, and whether you’re building new or retrofitting. Get a detailed estimate by calling (346) 220-2472 or visiting our networking service page.

Frequently Asked Questions — Networking in Memorial
Fiber internet speed is just the entry point to your home. Internal Cat6a networking ensures every device—cameras, thermostats, audio endpoints, smart locks—communicates reliably at the speeds you paid for. Cheap WiFi or old Cat5 cabling becomes the bottleneck, not your internet connection. In Memorial homes with 50+ connected devices, proper internal cabling is non-negotiable.
Yes. We run Cat6a through attics, crawl spaces, and existing wall cavities wherever possible. Some wall cuts may be unavoidable in fully finished homes, but we keep them minimal and patch them professionally. Most retrofits are invisible once complete. The trade-off is slightly higher labor compared to new construction, but you get the same reliable result.
No. Enterprise-grade Cat6a and managed switches are designed to handle 100+ devices without saturation. When you add a new camera, audio zone, or automation control later, you simply plug it into your existing network. The infrastructure is future-proof; only the devices change.
Your ISP router is designed for basic internet browsing, not a whole-home smart home system. It lacks the admin controls, device prioritization, and reliability you need for cameras, security systems, and automation running 24/7. A managed commercial network gives you visibility and control—you can see every device, set bandwidth rules, and troubleshoot without calling support.
You own it completely. No monthly fees, no cloud dependency, no subscription. We give you full admin credentials and the password. You control your network, not a third-party service. This is standard practice for Licensed LOXONE Partners in the custom-home market.
